FIRSTCARIBBEAN SPEIGHTSTOWN SUPPORTS BREAKFAST PROGRAMME

BRIDGETOWN, September 21, 2009. The Seventh Day Adventist (SDA) Northern District Feeding Programme is being supported by the Speightstown Branch of FirstCaribbean International Bank. This programme not only provides nourishment to children in need but also provides valuable instruction to young mothers on enhancing their parenting skills.

Pastor Dale Haynes, Youth Director of the East Caribbean Conference of Seventh Day Adventists speaking at the Checker Hall, St. Lucy, Community Centre accepted a donation of food hampers, utensils and equipment presented by the Speightstown Branch of FirstCaribbean. FirstCaribbean also provided food hampers for the group’s Summer programme, and assisted with providing school books, backpacks for kids on their return to school.

Pastor Haynes commended the branch for its unswerving support of the programme which serves breakfast to children from the Checker Hall, St. Lucy, community. He said with the support of the Speightstown Branch, the Feeding Programme, which was started with 35 students in June and also continued during the summer holidays, would now operate Monday to Friday, for the duration of the current school year. In addition to the Checker Hall community, the Church had also reached out to assist students of Selah Primary School who would now also benefit from the programme.

Speaking on behalf of the Feeding Programme’s Breakfast Team, Monique James, SDA Youth Commissioner for St. Lucy, said a heartfelt thank you to FirstCaribbean on behalf of the many parents who appreciate the assistance with both foodstuffs and school supplies.

Manager of the Speightstown Branch, Sonia Boyce, led the team of volunteers from the Branch in supporting the project which is an initiative of FirstCaribbean’s Adopt-A-Cause programme. Staff members from the Speightstown Branch have also committed to volunteering more time in the future to work as servers for the feeding programme.

Adopt-A-Cause is a Corporate Social Responsibility initiative of FirstCaribbean International Bank which contributes to worthy causes in many areas affecting the Caribbean community such as education, child care, the elderly, health care, poverty alleviation and community development.
